NEET 2018: Registration opens, exam to be held on May 6

CBSE notification for NEET 2018 says candidates can register for the exam only through an online process on cbseneet.nic.in. Here are the details.

Online registrations for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for undergraduate programs have finally begun. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) released a circular on Thursday, which marks February 8 to March 9 period for interested students to register for the examinations online.

The exam will be held on May 6, from 10am to 1pm. The exam will consist of one paper containing 180 objective type questions from Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

“Candidates can register for the exam only through this online process. Instructions for the process and payment details are available on www.cbseneet.nic.in,” said a statement by CBSE. The application fee for regular students stands at Rs 1,400 whereas students from reserved categories will pay Rs 750, states the circular. “Aadhaar number is a very important criterion for all candidates in order to successfully register for NEET 2018,” added the circular.

This is the third year that admissions to all undergraduate medical and dental colleges across the country are being conducted through the common entrance test that was reintroduced in 2016. “NEET aspirants should ensure that their online payment to be eligible for the exam should be made by March 10, 23:50 hrs,” states the circular.

The registration process for NEET 2018 was delayed by more than a week this year, leaving parents as well as students worried. Many were worried about the NEET examination coinciding with the Maharashtra state Common Entrance Examination (MH-CET) exam in May, which would have left lakhs of students in a tight spot.

“Even after announcing the final date for NEET exam, there was no information of registration process made available. We were all worried that CBSE might start the registration process while our children will be busy studying for the class XII boards. At least now, they can finish this process and focus on their boards,” said Anjali Thakur, a parent.

The exam will be conducted in Hindi, English, Urdu, Gujarati, Marathi, Oriya, Bengali, Assamese, Telugu, Tamil and Kannada. NEET UG is conducted for admission to MBBS/BDS courses in India in medical/dental colleges run with the approval of the Medical Council of India/ Dental Council of India.
