Explore the Marvellous History of Chhota Udaipur

Most of us might have visited the beautiful and historical city of Udaipur. But have you ever heard of chota Udepur? Well, you will be surprised to know that unlike Udaipur which is situated in Rajasthan, Chhota Udaipur is a part of Gujarat. It was in fact a princely state during the British Era and has a lot of historical significance. Not much is known about chhota udaipur history. Let’s take a brief look at how this princely state was formed and how it has evolved over time.

The princely state of Chhota Udaipur was founded by Rawal Udaysinhji. He became the king after Patai Rawal of Champaner. They basically belonged to the Chauhan Dynasty and were Rajputs of that dynasty. Chhota Udaipur State also received a 9-gun salute from the British. It belonged to the Reva Kantha Agency and was a Second-class state. Prithviraj Singhji played a vital role in the history of Chota Udaipur by establishing the kingdom of Chhota–Udaipur on the banks of the river Orsang.

After India’s independence, chhota Udaipur became a part of the Union of India on 10th March 1948. Until now, there have been 12 Kings in the history of Chhota Udaipur.  HH Maharawal Shri JAI PRATAP SINHJI VIRENDRASINHJI Saheb has been the Maharawal of Chhota Udaipur since 27th June 2005.  Chota Udiapur has 546 villages and an approximate Privi Purse of Rs2,12,000. It covers an area of 2,305 Km2 and had a population of 64,621 as per 1901 censes. Kusum Vilas Palace is one of the main palaces of Chota udepur. So the next time you are planning a visit to Gujarat, don’t forget to visit these beautiful palaces. Who knows, you could be lucky enough to meet the royal family members in person.
