Whisper App

Bloggers routinely post Intimate details of their lives or on particular trending thoughts, opinions and emotions. For the great many though, many of those intimate thoughts are locked away within the framework of their own mind. Too costly to pay a psychotherapist or too ashamed to tell. Have you ever wondered what the people around you are really thinking?

One of the most popular mobile apps for community sharing is Whisper which can be found on Google Apps and Apple Store (free to use). Whisper is an online community whereby millions (estimates of 25+ million) of people around the globe share their genuine, unfiltered thoughts. Users can post anonymously shared messages known as Whispers and the text is then superimposed over an image. The image can be self-chosen from your phone's gallery or alternatively, the app will take the words used and run a search for applicable images.

Users can like others posts, chat directly, join groups of mutual interest or simply browse the unfettered, non-silenced community posts. Obviously parental guidance is required here as some posts can promote violent imagery, hypersexuality or closeted bigotry. Though many of it's useful simply share their common emotions or guilty pleasures. The platform gives users an opportunity to share without constant judging via a facebook wall or twitter feed whereby the anonymity aspect is lacking.

There is a wide range - some of the ones I've seen tonight include:

"I baby trapped my boyfriend, so what"
"Girls dont realise how much they actually hurt guys"
"The love of my life has been married for 8 years and it isn't to me"
"9 times out of 10 - The-girls-on-tinder-that-say-no-hook-ups-in-their-bio, I end up hooking up with"
"One bad breakup can make you hate a whole astrological sign"

Those are relatively tame to what is out there. Plenty to explore, plenty to gasp at but it's a place where judgement is meant to be left behind. I've seen people feeling very down and almost suicidal getting reassuring words, encourage and support. I've seen messages where mums feel stressed and other parents offer tips. The platform can be used as a mechanism both for release of any locked feelings but also to link up those that feel the same.
