What To Expect As A 1st Year Student At University.

  • Senior students demanding respect.

No matter where you go in life there will always be someone above you demanding respect, whether it be your boss at a new job or your mother and father at home.

The same counts at varsity there will be senior Students Demanding Respect and you should give it to them if they deserve it, the saying “respect your elders” will bring you a long way in life, but remember you also deserve to be handled with respect.

  • More responsibilities.

You are starting your own path now you are going to start making your own decisions.

You are going to have more freedom and with freedom comes responsibilities.

You will have to decide are you going to class today or not or are you going to study or party, no one is going to force you to do anything the decisions are in your hands.

  • Lower grades.

If you are part of the small percentage of students that quickly achieve high grades, lucky you, for the rest of the students you are going to get lower grades than high school.

Just deal with it, you are going to have to work harder than school. It is not uncommon for you to get a shocking 30 % for your first test. If you get one of those results let it motivate you to do better and don’t let it bring you down.

  • Staying awake until late.

Get ready to go to bed at 2 am and not get much sleep in, varsity is all about socializing and studying, your schedule is going to be full.

  • More socializing with other students.

At varsity there are loads of opportunities to socialize with other students at parties, sporting events, cultural events and committees.

  • Meeting different types of people.

You are going to meet very different types of people, embrace it and get to know them and their stories. Don’t be quick to judge, first get to know them.

   • Change.

These are the years where you are going to shape and form who you are so expect change.

  • Learn how to study more in less time.

The quantity of work is more at varsity than at high school and the time is way less to prepare. You will adapt to the standard of university so don’t stress.

  • The time of your life.

University is going to be the time of your life and for some it might not be, but take the opportunity and make the best of it. You are only young once.

Go out there and do your thing.
