Current Article: June 2010 Newsletter

Greetings Bloggers!

Welcome to the June issue of the Blogarama Newsletter! June is a very exciting time of the year due to the Summer Solstice for those of you in the northern hemisphere, and the Winter Solstice for those living in the southern hemisphere. On June 21st, the first day of Summer or Winter arrives, depending on your location. Either way, you're about to begin a new seasonal adventure.

In the Summer part of the world, June is a highly popular month for weddings. Those of you who write wedding blogs will be very busy during this month offering tips, ideas, and overall valuable advice to those would be brides. You may be quite interested in our feature article this month entitled Wedding Bells. As most brides have already made their plans, there are still many last minute things that can come up. You just might find something useful to add to your blog this month for those unforeseen emergencies.

Blogging 101 continues this month with Publishing your First Blog. If you've got everything else done and you're ready to rock, this is an article you will not want to miss!

June is a great month for those of you with gardens to use for inexpensive, healthy, and tasty dinners. You'll find a recipe this month for Chopped Chicken Vegetable Salad. It's simple to make and you can use things such as tomatoes, onions, lettuce or any of the other ingredients that you may have growing in your garden. It will be a family hit!

Publishing Your First Blog

You've spent so much time searching for just the right theme for your blog, as well as getting your first post written. Now all is ready to go. You're finally ready to publish your very first blog post and you're most likely so excited that you can't sit still! It's that excitement that has carried you this far and will keep your blog interesting and well-read for a long time to come.

The blog software that you have chosen will most likely be quite clear in its instructions that will show you where to add a new post. That's the first thing you're going to be doing. So you will need to go to that part of your blog administrative section.

Now that you're at the page to insert your blog, enter the title of your post. Keep it enticing and to the point. You want your readers to be drawn in by the title and be dying to know what you have to say on that particular subject.

When you're writing your post, you should write in small paragraphs rather than long drawn out ones. Make them at least 3 sentences long but there's no need to make them a half page in length. People tend to stay with your posts longer when they are short and quickly read.

Add in any pictures or images that you have to enhance this particular post. (Next month, we'll discuss finding images and photos.) A picture is definitely worth a thousand words especially if it's an image that will draw your reader to the post. This is an important part of the overall post. Something else to keep in mind is that you must save your post regularly while you're writing it. Some people decide to do a copy/paste where they will write out their post in something such as Microsoft Word, and then transfer it to the blog page. However you choose to do that is up to you.

Don't forget to add categories and tags to your post. The categories are a great way to group together things to find them easier. The tags will let people find you through many separate words that your post is about. The more tags you can put in, the better.

Save your draft and then have a look at how it appears so far. This is where you will see if there are any glaring errors or something needs to be changed around. When you're 100 percent happy with the way your post and accompanying images appear, it's time to hit that Publish button. Don't be afraid! You've done everything just right and you're READY!

CONGRATULATIONS! You've just published your very first blog post!

Next month: Using Photos and Images for your Blog

Wedding Bells

June is a great month for people who blog about weddings. This is one of the most popular of all wedding months. There are many reasons that is true and none of them are quite as romantic as you may want to believe. One of these reasons has everything to do with harvest time. If a bride were to become pregnant soon after her June wedding, she would still be in good enough shape to help with the fall harvest. It also meant that she would be recovered from childbirth in plenty of time to help with the next harvest.

It is also said that the tradition of June weddings began as far back as the 1500s. Since the people took their yearly baths in May, they were still fairly fresh in June. However, as some body odor had returned, the tradition of carrying bouquets of flowers became popular to mask this body odor.

There are many reasons for the traditional June weddings and you may want to use the month of June to blog about them. Many traditions and superstitions surround weddings and some of these are highly entertaining. You can bet that many brides will flock to your blog to read about these.

Something else that June brides will need you for is advice on such things as back up plans. As the majority of weddings are planned months or even years ahead of time, anything can go wrong at the last minute. For example, an outdoor wedding planned for June can be one of the loveliest events you've ever seen. However, when you're reserving your outdoor space for June in the month of January, you may not consider that the heavens may decide to open up on that day and deluge you and your guests in a flood of rain. This is definitely one of those things the bride and groom need a backup plan for, and YOU are the expert that they will look to for help.

As you can imagine, there are many of these sorts of last minute emergencies that can crop up. The big day doesn't HAVE to be ruined, though. If you devote a significant number of your blog posts to what can happen and some contingency plans, you can bet you'll have a FLOCK of readers who will be soaking up every word you write.

Take full advantage of the new readers you can land during this time and watch your blog explode!

Chopped Chicken And Vegetable Salad

If you're lucky enough to have a thriving garden during the year, you should make definite use of the vegetables grown there. This month's recipe uses several of your garden's produce, therefore making it a very healthy, tasty and thrifty meal.

Ingredients:
  • Chopped cooked chicken, can be left over or cooked just for this recipe
  • Diced fresh tomatoes
  • Thinly sliced purple onions
  • Thinly sliced cucumbers
  • Shredded lettuce
  • Sliced mushrooms
  • Cooked bacon, finely chopped
  • Shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheeses
  • Croutons
  • Salad Dressing of your choice

You will notice that there are not any measurements for the ingredients. The reason for this is so you can adjust all the ingredients to what your family requires. Obviously, the ingredients will be quite a bit different for a family of 8 than for a family of 3. As long as you follow the way the ingredients are meant to be prepared, you can be the judge of how much or little you should include of each.

Each person can request their own salad dressing or you can use one to pour over it and mix before serving. Honey mustard is very tasty with this salad. Add baked garlic or mozzarella bread as a side.

For those of you who are enjoying the winter season right now, even though you don't have a garden, you can still enjoy this recipe by shopping in the produce section of your supermarket. Then when your garden season approaches, keep it handy to use again.

Have a look at your personal Zodiac sign below to find out what lies ahead of you this month!

Aquarius Are you ready for the many changes that are coming your way in June? Your creativity revs up and you're ready to make the most of it. This will be easy to notice as your brain fills up with so many ideas that they almost overflow. Someone's watching you and loving the sight.
Pisces Your magical and adventurous spirit spills over into your work related ventures in June. Others will marvel at what you can accomplish this month. They won't admit it, but they never thought you could do it. While you probably won't notice, there's someone special who seems to be waiting in the wings.
Aries Your dogged determination brings you a lot of what you want in June. No one seems to want to argue with you about anything so you get your way most of the time, which is just how you like it. Use this new found "power" to get a few important projects off the ground. You've no time for romance this month.
Taurus You'll need to decide what's most important to you in June. There's no way to know for sure until you start one of the many things facing you currently. It seems that the deadlines for certain things keep changing which throws you for a loop. There's a point where you just need to take a deep breath and chill. Someone special is planning a surprise for you.
Gemini Your amazing gift of gab seems to open a lot of doors for you in June. These are doors that you have been knocking on for a long time and now they let you in. Show them all what you're capable of and you'll enjoy success for a long time. There's a line clamoring for your attention. Pick and choose.
Cancer Those roller coaster moods of yours can bring you a lot of problems when it comes to your work in June. Remember not to take everything to heart so easily. Everyone needs constructive criticism from time to time and you're no exception. Learn from what you're told and life will be a lot easier.
Leo A born leader such as yourself needs a bit of time off once in a while. It's not that you don't WANT to help, but too many people seem to be demanding a lot of you in June. Spend some time with your own projects this month and less on everyone else's. Romance is always waiting for you when you're ready for it.
Virgo Your rigid rules can sometimes get on everyone's nerves. Please remember that you're not perfect either and can benefit from advice on occasion. You do seem to have some creative juices flowing in June and you need to get them all noted somewhere so you don't forget them. Partners may fight you on certain issues.
Libra June seems to pull the rug out from under you in a lot of ways. Where you're usually so balanced, you'll find that nothing is quite as it seems for you this month. Take some time away to ponder what you need to do with the rest of your life. You've got some great ideas floating around in your head. Let them come to the surface.
Scorpio Your ability to make people want to do things for you is never more apparent than in June. They flock to you in droves asking to be allowed in your presence. This can be work related or social, or both. It really doesn't matter in the end. You'll use whatever help you can get to complete something important.
Sagittarius It may be necessary for you to find that sense of humor you've been hiding and dust it off a bit in June. Someone has definitely sucked the red off of your candy and you're trying to make everyone else pay for it. Why are you letting one person ruin your whole month? There's plenty of adventure and fun to be had around your success at work.
Capricorn It's time to stop being so prickly and let June just "bust out all over" for you. Kick back and have some fun. There has to be a least a couple of people you almost enjoy being around. Toss around some of your more enlightened ideas around with them. Maybe there will be a successful collaboration.

That's it for June! We hope you have had some fun reading this month's newsletter and possibly found something new to take away from it. As always, please send in any comments, suggestions, or things you would like to see covered in the newsletter.

Until next month,
Happy Blogging!
