Meet Laurin Copen Antiques
in Bridgehampton
We stopped into Laurin Copen Antiques this week where we were greeted with a charming nuzzle from the resident friendly dog, some refreshing iced tea and an informative tour about the shop and the home itself. It was a whirlwind two days while I led a group of designers and writers on an antiques and design tour of the Hamptons. As part of the largest antiques sourcing and buying tour group in the world, I joined the Antiques Diva's expansion into the US. Stopping into Laurin Copen was a lovely respite. Set in an 18th century farmhouse on the edge of Bridgehampton, the shop is warm and welcoming. I love the way the team designs the rooms, giving them each a very distinct personality and allowing the antiques to shine in a real home-like setting. Laurin Copen Antiques is certainly one of my favorite shops in the East End of Long Island with its unique pieces from mid-century furnishings to beautiful pottery, lighting, industrial pieces and gorgeous European paintings. The checkerboard black and white painted floors of this lovely old home add a fantastic backdrop to these antique gems. Each time I visit, the furniture and accessories are arranged differently showing a new aesthetic which keeps the shop fresh looking and inspiring visitors. Not like other antiques shops, Laurin Copen's shop is fully decorated with creative room vignettes, set tables and curated nooks and all while suggesting to consumers how to combine these lovely wares. More antiques and garden finds can be found in the back barn, and they offer a treasure trove of pieces to bring into your home and give it that special, nuanced design that is quintessentially "hamptons' style".

a lil history about the house:
Formerly the General Abraham Rose House, history tells us this was Samuel Haines homestead and part of the Mecox Division from 1682. With the inhabitant's family members serving in the American Revolution, this is one of the oldest homes in the area, and it is believed the family farm home burnt down in 1791. What remains of the original Haines farm house, is the lower back office and upstairs office of the shop, and it is distinct with its low ceilings and architectural qualities.
