Sleep Right – How Interior Design Can Help

Sleep Right.  That is a loaded statement…am I right?  Sleep affects everything and everyone.  We all need it.  Some function better off of a few hours while others crave 12 plus hours.  People have made professional careers off of analyzing Sleep and not just for babies for us adults too!  You think better, feel better, eat better.  You have more energy to do your daily tasks whether it is work or play.  You also enjoy the people and the environment around you more.  You tend to have more patience to handle tough tasks such as your toddlers melt downs or those last minute deadlines you were not prepared for.  So, can you environment where you sleep really enhance it?  Just like having a productive, efficient work environment having a place to drift off to never, never land and wake up to feeling refreshed is just as important if not more.

We LOVE designing and helping others with their Bedroom projects here at Lilu Interiors.  Many people put their own bedroom behind them or it just isn’t a priority because no one sees it right?  Well, you see your bedroom and you actually do a lot of living in there and we think that you and self care should be at the top of the list when it comes to interior projects.  We have put together some ways that interior design can help you sleep right.  Take a look below and we would love to help you with your own sleep haven.

Light vs Dark

We love natural light and believe that letting this light into your room in the morning is a wonderful way to wake up but let’s face it we might not all be able to fall asleep with the moonlight or perhaps you have a street lamp post that peers into your bedroom window. Also, seasons change and the sun can come up  much earlier than we are ready to especially on a Saturday morning.   Here are some ways in which we can design the light in and out of your room.

Beds, Nightstand and Reading Lights

Are you someone who is guilty of just owning a mattress and a metal bed frame?  Having a actual bed frame and headboard doesn’t have to be an expensive thing but rather they come in all shapes, sizes, and textures.  We love designing headboards and having a room come together with something as simple as a bed.  A bed with a headboard gives a sense of place and it is something that can hug you as you settle in for the night.

One common practice that many sleep experts or perhaps just your friends advice to you is to write down your worries, thoughts and to do lists before you go to bed at night.  Keep a bed side journal and make sure you have a nightstand that includes storage or a nice surface to keep it safe.  Bedside lighting is an important element when winding down.  If you like to read it bed, a nice soft light that is above your head will help illuminate the book.  It can be a tall lamp or wall sconces with adjustable arms to accommodate all tasks in bed.

Bedding

What you sleep in is as important as what you sleep on.  Later this week we will look into the best mattresses but today we will look some options for comforters or duvet inserts.  There is a variety in the type of bedding that you put on your bed.  You can get down filled or synthetic fill comforters.  Synthetic fills come into play when someone may have an allergy.  This is a great alternative and making sure it is certified to not contain any chemicals is an added plus.  They can also be temperature regulating.  This is important for those that run warmer than others and also for those summer months when you don’t want to run your AC so cold all night.  The way that a comforter or duvet is stitched and made is an important fact to consider.  We have all had those comforters where after a year or two all the fill ends up in the corner.  Here at LiLu Interiors, we have many sources that we turn to when select the right bedding for a client.

Besides a comforter, decorative elements on a bed such as shams and small bed pillows may seem useless to some but to us they are that added layer that can give an overall feel to any room. Perhaps it is a soft texture or a calming pattern.  They are also great to prop your self up on for some extra cushion to read a book or even watch a movie.

Sleep is a hot commodity in this world.  We all need it and want it.  We want to help you achieve it by designing a space where your intentions are met.
