Happy Friday! It has been a few weeks since my last Friday Favorites post because I have been on the road for my book Tour. It’s been so nice to be at home and in my office for the last few days. The past few weeks have been rather eventful for many reasons, from traveling for my book tour and being in High Point, to news that has shaken up the interior design industry from the major changes happening at House Beautiful and Veranda which have us all wondering what lies in the future for our beloved shelter magazines to the passing of the legendary decorator, Mario Buatta, the Prince of Chintz. More on all of this below. Have a wonderful weekend!

Design: This week, the lauded interior designer, Mario Buatta, who graced the AD100 list for decades, passed away after battling a long illness. Mario designed for the top society ladies in New York as well as celebrities including Barbara Walters and Mariah Carey. His deft hand at English Country-inspired interiors earned him the nickname of “The Prince of Chintz”. Known as much for his incredible design talent as for his mischiveous sense of humor, he will be sorely missed. You can read this ELLE DECOR article for fond memories of Mario Buatta shared by his clients and a slew of designers, including myself.

Style: Who else is excited for the newest Royal Baby?! The news of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s pregnancy is certainly wonderful news. The Duke and Duchess are currently on a tour of Australia and Meghan is turning out some fabulous outfits. She is such a breath of fresh air!

Read: I previously mentioned the Maryn’s new makeover when I shared the studio tour of Chicago artist, Josh Young. Well, the Maryn’s new iteration officially launched and they are featuring a home tour with my good friend and talented artist, William McLure.

Watch: When I fly, I love catching up on magazines– some like Town & Country, Forbes, and ELLE DECOR, while others like People and Us Weekly are of the less sophisticated variety. What can I say? A girl needs mindless material to decompress sometimes! The common denominator lately has been glowing reviews of a new show airing on Amazon called The Romanoffs which comes to us from the mind of the creator of Mad Men. The show is set around the world, focusing on eight different characters played by such talent as Aaron Eckhart, Diane Lane, John Slattery, Christina Hendricks, and Andrew Rannels, who believe they are direct descendants of the doomed Russian royal family. I can’t wait to have a weekend at home to binge-watch this show! Have you watched it yet? I’d love to hear your thoughts if you have.

Follow: As a reaction to the terrible dismantling of the talented editorial teams at the Hearst Design Group (read this Business of Home article for all of the details), a fabulous, new, anonymous Instagram account, @TheOldHouseBeautiful has started #therebellion in protest of the awful, new direction @HouseBeautiful’s Instagram has gone lately by focusing on what we all really care about– beautiful, inspiring interiors. It’s a mystery who is behind the account, but I for one, am grateful that someone is leading the charge and crying out for Hearst to bring back the House Beautiful we know and love– the one helmed by editors who have been incredibly supportive of so many of us and who have inspired us with countless beautiful issues.

Events: Next week, I am heading to Chicago to see a wonderful client and then a couple of days later, I am heading to Dallas where I am having a book signing at the beautiful Blue Print store on Friday, October 26th from 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm. I hope to see you there, Dallas friends!

Shop: When I left Houston over a week ago to head to Washington, DC and High Point, it still felt like summer in Houston. When I returned a couple of days ago, it finally felt like fall! I absolutely love sweater weather, probably because it is such a novelty in Houston, so it’s a good thing that J.Crew is currently having a huge 40% off sale on select sweaters and jackets and 25% off just about everything else on their website to make me feel better about buying new fall items. Hurry, the sale ends on Monday!
