Hon’ble Union Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurates two CNG stations at Puri

CNG stations commissioned by GAIL Gas Limited within 6 months of being authorised for Puri, Ganjam, Nayagarh Geographical Area


Speaking on this occasion Union Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan said that, “the Cng Stations located at Balukhanda and Uttara Chowk will give a fillip for building up of eco-friendly mobility network in the holy city of Puri. CNG being a new age fuel which scores high as much on its green credentials as for its affordability, commuting on Green fuel will be highly encouraged in Puri city now.
Adding to this Shri Pradhan said, this ambitious project of supply of gas through pipelines will benefit lakhs of people of Odisha and not only cities, but people in villages will also be benefitted through PNG supply in coming days”.
The Hon’ble Minister also filled up the first auto-rickshaw with the environment-friendly fuel.
GAIL Gas Limited, a City Gas Distribution Company, commissioned the CNG stations within 6 months of being authorised to set up City Gas Distribution network in Puri, Ganjam, Nayagarh Geographical Area by Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB).
GAIL Gas has ambitious plans to start 15 CNG stations in next 8 years. With the commissioning of the CNG Stations in Puri, the intercity, as well as the intracity commuting on Green fuel, will be encouraged. Puri will be marked on the green Map of India having the availability of CNG in the city. The company has plans to build its own independent CNG stations in Puri.
During the 9th Round of Bidding GAIL Gas has been authorised to implement City Gas Distribution Network in Puri, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda districts. CGD Project of Ganjam – Nayagarh and Puri districts will cover 15821.70 sq.kms. area in the district and will include 40 charge areas namely Ganjam, Odagaon, Gop, Bhanjanagar, Sorada, Bellaguntha, Buguda, Dharakote, Asika, Polasara, Beguniapada, Khalikote, Kavisuryanagar, Purusottampur, Sanakhemundi, Seragad, Hinjilicut, Chikiti, Patrapur, Digapahandi, Kukudakhandi, Rangeilunda, Chhatrapur, Nayagarh-I, II, III, Gania, Bhapur, Khandapada, Banapur, Krushnaprasad, Brahmagiri, Kanas, Purisadar, Satyabadi, Delanga, Pipili, Nimapada, Astaranga, Kakatpur.
The total investment for the project is Rs. 728 crore for the initial 25 years. The district will have 51,000 households connected with Piped Natural Gas. A network of 650-inch km will be laid in the district. The supply of Piped Natural Gas to industries and commercial units will also help in the reduction of pollution in these districts. The main source pipeline for the CGD project will be GAIL’s Jagdishpur- Haldia & Dhamra- Bokaro Pipeline, popularly known as ‘Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga’.
Why CNG? CNG is a new age fuel which scores high as much on its green credentials as for its affordability. On the pollution front, CNG is the most benign of fossil fuels with the least carbon footprint of all. C02 emissions are lesser in CNG by about 27%, CO emissions by about 84%, NOx emissions by about 58% and Particulate Matter (PM) emissions CNG by about 97%. While CO2, CO and NOx adversely impact the environment, PM emission is one of the leading causes of air pollution-related illnesses in big cities such as Bengaluru.
