Tombstoning: A Leap into the Unknown

Ever felt the urge to jump off a cliff and see what happens when you reach the bottom? No, me neither. But it seems to be a Craze that’s sweeping Britain at the moment.

Okay, I suspect a lot of us have Jumped from a pier or quayside into the sea, but this new craze, called Tombstoning, has taken the reckless joy out of jumping into the sea and added the madness of doing so without knowing what’s at the bottom. With the news this week that a young boy drowned in a canal after a suspected tombstoning incident in the UK, it seems a crazy thing to do. The idea is to jump from a great height, hopefully into deep water, but without actually knowing the depth. So, it could be a few inches deep and a lot of rocks just beneath and you’ve just jumped from a thirty foot tall structure… not a very bright idea in my mind.

I’ll stick with tea and biscuits thank you very much.
