LG V20 32-bit Quad DAC to be mobile first

LG V20 32-bit Quad DAC To Be Mobile First

LG is wasting little time shrouding its upcoming smartphone in mystery. Since the Korean OEM has already sent out a press invite to confirm its existence, LG is getting down to business — working on promotion for the upcoming device to show how it stands out. The device itself looks to be modular, but there are other features that the company hopes will stand out. One of these stand-out features is 32-Bit Quad Dac (digital to analog converter) which will dramatically improve the company’s current Hi-Fi audio sound on its smartphones.

The company teamed up with ESS Technology to place a Hi-Fi audio chip in the V10, and the V20 will prove no different in that regard. The new 32-bit Quad Dac, however, is said to improve audio output in smartphones, bringing audio performance to the level of a surround sound setup on a smartphone: “As a technology more typically available in high-end audio equipment, Quad DAC on the V20 will make users feel as if they are carrying around a professional home-audio system on their smartphone,” the company said in its press release.

LG has been placing Hi-Fi audio in its mobile devices since at least the LG G2 (three years ago), so we’re not surprised to see LG continue to keep the pace in its flagships. The LG G5 offers a 32-bit Sabre ES9028C2M DAC in the Hi-Fi Plus module you can purchase as an added cost to create the modular experience, but LG’s V20 will offer it from the outset, it seems (making the V20 its 201 flagship in every way). Of course, with the presumed modular design from the render we’ve seen, the V20 could offer the 32-Bit Quad DAC as its own Hi-Fi Plus module.

We’ll have to see how the new Hi-Fi audio differs from that of the LG G5, but we’re presuming that the 32-bit Quad DAC provides even better sound than that of the G5’s Hi-Fi audio. This may not be a big deal to many of us, but audiophiles who may be somewhat upset over the removal of BOOMSOUND and HTC’s front-facing audio speakers in the HTC 10 this year may find something of a new home with LG.
