4 Habits of Supermoms

We all know her. Her kids are dressed (and their clothes are clean and coordinated), her house is clean (no dust bunnies to speak of), she cooks dinner regularly (probably from scratch), she plans out her week, she never misses an appointment and for all intents and purposes she seems to have it all together.

How in the world does she do it, and how does she make it look so easy?

We have all met someone like this, and if we make the deadly sin of comparing ourselves to her, we almost always wind up feeling inadequate. Let us not dismay or compare, but instead, snoop out her secrets and learn her ways so we too can master the art of being a Supermom.

4 Habits of Supermoms

Habit #1

She’s organized. I don’t mean in the haphazard she knows what day of the week ballet class is on kind of way. I mean really, truly organized. She has a planner; her calendar is up to date, she checks and double checks the entries. She’s so organized she is likely to never miss an appointment, a birthday or a sports practice. She’s the CEO of the home, and she takes her job very seriously.

Habit #2

She’s mastered meal planning. She doesn’t just step in front of the refrigerator at 4 pm hoping some brilliantly creative meal idea will jump out at her, only to realize that most of what she needs are still in the freezer. Nope, this supermom has a plan, likely for the whole week’s meals if not the whole month’s. She has the ingredients; she has the menu, she has a plan.

Habit #3

She knows the secret. However, I am about to share it with you so you can know it too. Are you ready for this one? Lean in real close. She knows that she is the thermostat of the home. That means that old saying is right, the one that states, “If mama ain’t happy,” you know the rest. She’s made it a Habit of setting the thermostat at a temperature that is conducive to the rest of the family. She never seems to look stressed; you don’t hear her yelling, she just makes it look easy.

Habit #4

She’s a perpetual planner. She likely buys her Christmas gifts in October and plans her family vacations a year in advance. Her yearly calendar is edited way in advance so she can start marking on it ahead of time. She plans it all, and she, therefore, doesn’t get caught unprepared.

If you know someone like this it’s all too easy to get frustrated when you see that supermom in action. It is too easy to compare ourselves and feel that we are falling short, but, she wouldn’t want you to do that either. ask her to share her secrets. She likely doesn’t even consider herself a supermom, she knows she has faults and shortcomings, but she has habits and something to share if you just ask.

I’m by no means a supermom, but I’m frequently surprised by how many people assume I am. One thing I’ve learned is that when I’m sitting next to someone I think is a supermom; she’s likely thinking the same about me.
