An anti-landmine, laser Drone that detects and defuses landmines from the sky is what may happen when the innocence and intelligence merge on the fresh brain of a bright, naïve 14 years old schoolboy. So when someone said that “today’s children are the future of tomorrow”, they literally meant it after this child thought of and created a drone that destroys landmines.

From Newspapers to the Globe

So the plot is really curious, as this mature little human had the meaningful idea while reading India’s newspapers last year, while consulting an article concerning the high army casualties due to explosive devices –Points for his parents and India’s education.

At the very beginning, Harshwardhan Zala, the genius kid, thought about a robot shape, but then he realized that a flying form would be safer for detecting and deactivating the mines via infrared sensor, which in my opinion boosted it usefulness, as it can cover a larger range of distance in the air.

Thereby, he made an invaluable contribution to our world’s security tech advances. The target on the foreground was the military after a partly financed contribution came from India’s government, but that now is a matter of study regarding a possible future commercial production or marketing perspective –I guess any wise governor in a known landmine territory would like to negotiate and acquire this kind of defender tool to protect their people. Nevertheless, does this youngster actually know the incredible impact of bringing to life a gadget like that?

It doesn’t matter if that was just an innovative video game in his head, because playing hide-and-seek in real life against hidden bombs is just another level since till those days we discover undetected bombs from old wars like the one of the Second World War. The good news – this guy has more to offer to humanity as he is setting up his own company, Aerobatics 7.

Accidentally Innovating

The inventions or gadgets are worthy of recognition and appreciation because they require a long process of thought, meditation, experimentation and development to consolidate successfully.

However, there are times when many of those steps –or even all– are overlooked, and yet we should be grateful because they make life easier for us, make us wiser or even save our lives, as in the anti-landmine drone case.

We are often ignoring that there is usually a funny or unusual background in the middle of the seriousness of the matter, like the ‘sticky’ behind the scenes of the creation of super glue, where Dr. Harry Cover was the main actor just when he gave up of experimenting, after touching cyanoacrylate without protection where he became stuck to everything he touched… And voilà!

But further, isn’t it really exciting the unusual way some minds are solving unusual problems? That is the backdrop of the luminAID.

The Future Is Full Of Breakthroughs

Something really intriguing is how bizarre, in the good sense of the word, can be the process of solving some sort of situations with ideas that nobody else has thought of, which is the case of the luminAID: a collapsible solar lantern, a float, and even a pillow, produced to assist post-earthquake populations. This device became so handy, that it turned into a great, earth-sustainable light beacon for anyone including; backpackers to emergency workers who need to light their ways.

I cannot wait any longer to see what the next discovery or futuristic gadget is, whomever makes the discovery; whether casual or involves kids, I’m sure it will be another projection of the limitless, mysterious and powerful human mind.
