Alchema aims to simplify the process with the help of a user-friendly smart cider homebrewer and an app that provides clear instructions, recipes, and tips for creating your own desired drink. Launching via the popular crowdfunding site Kickstarter this week, Alchema, the at-home countertop brewer that makes it incredibly easy to turn your favorite fruit into delicious batches of cider, takes a leap into the industry. So, how exactly can you turn your fruit into alcohol?
How The Alchema Can Turn Your Fruit into Alcohol
Developed by San Francisco-based entrepreneur Oscar Chang, the Alchema brewing machine turns ordinary pieces of fruit into a delightful pitcher of craft cider in just three super easy-to-follow steps. First, you download the Alchema app onto your smartphone (yes, literally alcohol at your fingertips!). Using the app, you can browse through different recipes Alchema has that make the process much easier, or you can check out the tips they give you on making your own recipe based on ingredients you have available or simply ones you love.
Once you have chosen your recipe, you simply pour the fruit of choice in the pitcher, as well as water, sugar and yeast. There is a scale on the bottom of the tank to make sure you are putting in the correct amount of each ingredient (be sure not to get carried away, I know this all sounds exciting). Once the ingredients are in, you just close the tanks door, hit the power button and relax while Alchema takes care of the rest. The smartphone app will monitor the machine’s entire process and send you a notification when it’s time to get the party started. Easy enough, right? To make it even easier, before each batch is made, the device will sanitize the pitcher using medical-grade UV-C LED lights to prevent contaminants from entering the batch and ruing your good time.
Where Can I Get My Alchema?
Don’t go planning your next housewarming party or ‘girls night in’ just yet. The Alchema device is not yet available to the public. According to the company’s Kickstarter, the pre-ordered devices should be shipping around fall of this year – just in time for pumpkin cider. When it’s officially released to the public, the Alchema device will set you back $499, but if you pre-order it now, the cost drops to $429, which gives you an extra $70 to find the perfect cider glasses for your first batch! Keep in mind this price gets you the device itself, the pitcher, and three packets of yeast to get you started.
